DAY TWO
Tight contests the order of Day Two
After a draw and a loss on Day One of the Under 12 Winter Championship, Geelong continued its involvement in exciting contests on the Sunday, with the side qualifying for third and fourth playoff against Ringwood, which prevailed by a run in an entertaining game.
Geelong’s first-up game on Sunday was a seesawing affair in which both sides scored in every innings before Sunraysia emerged a 10-9 winner. The clash with Dandenong was equally close-fought, with Dandy holding a two-run lead into the bottom of the last – when the Geelong offence came alive with a three-run outburst that delivered a 7-6 result.
Only four hits were recorded between the two teams in the earlier game – with Charlie Bell, Xavier Galang and Luke Morrow the standouts – while Geelong amassed nine hits to four in the win over Dandenong as Pat Johnson (two hits and three RBIs), Jake Chapman (three hits) and Charlie Bell (two hits) showed the way for their side.
Conceding first in the first of the playoff game, Geelong hit back to take a lead over Ringwood – with Jack Northfield, Jake Chapman, Jordan Ellis and Reid Sexton playing leading roles – as this contest developed into a tight affair in which the lead changed a number of times.
Holding a three-run break into the bottom of the fourth, Geelong was not quite able to hold off a determined Ringwood team that plated four and edged to a 14-13 win to cap a weekend of enthralling under-aged baseball.
Geelong Baseball Association Board congratulates all players in the Under 12 GBA side on representing the league in such a spirited and enthusiastic manner, while broadening their baseball experience and improving upon their skills. We extend our sincere thanks to coaching and administrative staff of all our league squads for making the commitment to help represent the GBA in the best possible light at these important winter baseball events. Well done, all!

DAY ONE
Late rally not enough against DV Red
Coming off a stirring draw with Ringwood at the Under 12 Winter Championship, Geelong was placed in catch-up mode after conceding an early lead and mounting a late comeback that proved not enough against a big-hitting Diamond Valley Red – which emerged a 16-6 winner.
GAME TWO: DIAMOND VALLEY RED 16 defeated GEELONG 6
The Valley started brightly, plating five in the first to jump a Geelong outfit that replied with a run in the second but was rocked with another five-spot in the third as the big bats of the Melbourne side again came alive.
After being held scoreless in the fourth, Diamond Valley broke out again in the fifth – with another six – although the GBA side bravely stuck to its guns in plating five in the bottom of the last.
Trying three pitchers in being out-hit eleven to six, Geelong had solid contributions throughout the order, with standouts in Jordan Ellis (two hits and two RBIs), Tylah Laurie and Xavier Galang.
The tournament will continue on Sunday.
Big inning helps GBA force a first-up draw.

After a scoreless first innings, Geelong – showing good pitch selection – plated a run in the second, though Ringwood hit back hard with a five spot as the GBA defence was placed under great pressure.
